Beatles First Appearance On Ed Sullivan

It was February 9th, 1964

I was nine years old.
Not too long ago I heard that the crime in New York City on this night literally dropped to zero. I don't know how they measured that, but one thing's for sure... Music has power!

The Beatles were of course brilliant musicians whose influence continues to be felt even to this day, and are considered by many to be the best band that ever lived. They are one of the highest grossing musical groups of all time, selling over a billion records internationally with over 26 number one singles.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney became two of the most prolific songwriters of our time, blessed with two of the eras great voices. And lets not forget the very tasteful styles of drummer Ringo Starr and lead guitarist George Harrison.

On February 9th, 1964, the night the Beatles made their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show, America was ripe and ready. The country had lost their beloved President Kennedy just 11 weeks earlier. They were desperately in need of something upbeat and the Beatles did not disappoint.

Ed Sullivan was so impressed by The Beatles that he stated publicly that they were "four of the nicest young kids we've ever had on our stage."

Heres an interesting fact you may not be aware of. Also performing that night in one of the other acts was a young man who was very moved by The Beatles performance. He went on to become the lead singer for a group called The Monkees. His name is Davey Jones.
